BELLMEAD - A woman will spend the next 3 years behind bars after abandoning her children while she was attempting to evade police.
Mary Johnson had sent her children into a Dollar General store with a stolen credit card in an attempt to purchase gift cards.
A store clerk called police and Johnson drove off leaving her daughters, ages 13 and 15 behind.
While Johnson was making a run for it in her U-Haul truck, she drove into a church parking lot in the 1900 block of Hood Street and got stuck in a ditch. She was taken into custody.
Johnson received 15 months for the credit card fraud, 15 months for abandoning her children, and 3 years for evading arrest. The three sentences are being served concurrently.
