Elderly man hit by car dies in the hospital

TEMPLE - A man is dead after being hit by a car Monday evening.

Police were dispatched at around 5:15 p.m. to the 4600 block of South 31st St. to a vehicle accident involving a pedestrian. When they arrived that found an elderly man lying in the roadway.

The man was taken to Scott & White hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead at approximately 8:09 p.m.

The initial investigation shows the man was walking on the west side of the 4600 block of South 31^st Street when he attempted to cross to the east side of the street. The victim appears to have stepped onto the roadway and in the path of a 2006 Chevrolet HHR traveling southbound on south 31^st. The driver was unable to avoid the pedestrian before striking him with the vehicle.  The driver of the vehicle appeared to have been uninjured in the accident.

The victim is identified as 91 year old Karl Theobald.
