WACO - A clerk at a local gas station was able to play a crucial role in the arrest of a suspect in a convenience store robbery that took place Thursday morning.

At around 3:25 a.m., the suspect entered a Skinny's convenience store at 18th and Lyle. The suspect wore a mask into the store and acted as though he had a weapon. He demanded money from the clerk.

As the suspect was reaching across the counter towards the register the clerk was able to knock the mask off his face. This allowed the clerk to identify him.

44-year-old Leon Childress was arrested at his home located at 1536-A Herring Avenue. Childress was taken into custody without incident and evidence related to the robbery was recovered from the home.
